在英語里，當on的意思是在交通工具上時，on的適用范圍是比較廣闊的空間，適用于乘客有較大走動范圍的交通工具。所以在飛機上、在火車上、在地鐵上、在船上、在公共汽車上，一般都用on。
例：
There was only one seat free on the train.
火車上只剩下一個空座。
We waited till twelve and we finally got on the plane.
我們一直等到12點才終于上了飛機。

在汽車上并不是on the car，而是in the car
