there's no smoke without fire 

美式英語(yǔ)中也說(shuō)成where there's smoke, there's fire。

這個(gè)表達(dá)通常還會(huì)搭配這兩個(gè)詞：rumor和gossip。這兩個(gè)詞指的是在人與人之間傳播但尚未被證實(shí)為真實(shí)的故事或信息。它們通常是關(guān)于一些不好的事情。針對(duì)rumor和gossip，通常它們是there's no smoke without fire的。

If someone says there's no smoke without fire or where there's smoke there's fire, they mean that there are rumours or signs that something is true so it must be at least partly true. 

如果人們說(shuō)there's no smoke without fire或者where there's smoke there's fire，那么他們的意思就是說(shuō)流言蜚語(yǔ)并不是空穴來(lái)風(fēng)，它多多少少是有點(diǎn)根據(jù)才會(huì)有的。

這句習(xí)語(yǔ)源于16世紀(jì)，當(dāng)時(shí)人們用煙和火來(lái)比喻任何事情發(fā)生總是有原因的，沒(méi)有火怎么會(huì)起煙呢？當(dāng)你想用英語(yǔ)表示某事事出有因，就可以用這句習(xí)語(yǔ)來(lái)形容某事“無(wú)火不冒煙;無(wú)風(fēng)不起浪”。

He denied having an affair with secretary, but there's no smoke without fire.
