英語中有些短語是不能按字面去理解的
特別是“sporting house”

sporting house是一個(gè)美國俚語
它的意思是：“妓院；賭場”

“正在加大對(duì)體育館投資力度....”
不少同學(xué)都把體育館
“妓院”的英文表達(dá)除了“sporting house”
還有一個(gè)也比較特別有
那就是“cathouse”
看字面意思，你是不是又懵圈了？
這難道不是“貓窩”的意思嗎？
其實(shí)，英語中“貓窩”的表達(dá)更常用cat bed或cattery
而“體育館”可以說：
gymnasium（縮寫gym）或stadium
on the house 直接看字面的意思可能會(huì)理解成
“在房屋的上面”
但在日常生活中
你可能會(huì)在酒吧，飯店等地方
看到有一黑板寫著
The drinks here are on the house.
老板的意思不是“飲料都在屋頂”
而是：這里的酒水都是免費(fèi)的。
on the house意思是：
由店家或公司負(fù)擔(dān)費(fèi)用，免費(fèi)
例：
A: Excuse me, How much do I owe you for dinner?
打擾一下，晚餐我欠你多少錢？
B: Don’t worry! It’s on the house.
別擔(dān)心，這是免費(fèi)的。
裝修房子：不是decorate the house
而是：remodel the house/apartment
remodel [?ri??m?dl] 改造、改裝(裝修)
decorate [?dek?re?t] 是裝飾、布置(點(diǎn)綴)
比如decorate the house with the flowers and balloons
用氣球和花裝飾房子
例：
We are going to remodel our house before the wedding.
我們會(huì)在婚禮前把家裝修一下。
這個(gè)短語的意思是
受冷落，失寵；也有丟臉、麻煩大了的意思
想象一下你讓你對(duì)象很生氣
被“趕”出臥室
例：
I hate being in the doghouse all the time. I don't know why I can't stay out of trouble.
我很討厭遭受冷落，我不知道為什么我一直在惹麻煩。
